IMPORTANT INFORMATION

DEPARTURE AND RETURN TIMES

Walking tours – please arrive 10 minutes before the start time of your tour.

Cycling tours – to ensure all bikes and equipment are properly checked and adjusted to suit you body size, we need some extra time before the tour gets underway.  Therefore:

  • if you are hiring a Nextbike – please arrive 30 minutes before the start time of your tour.
  • if you are bringing your own bike – please arrive 15 minutes before the start time of your tour.

This is to ensure we leave on time and that all attractions on our route can be visited as planned.

If a customer is not at the departure point by the advertised departure time, we reserve the right to depart and no refund will be given.

Hidden Heritage Tours always aim to return by the advertised time.  However, should circumstances outwith our control mean that we return late, we cannot be held responsible for customers’ post tour travel, entertainment or other commitments.

WHAT’S INCLUDED?

Our prices cover the cost of the tour and, if booked, bicycle hire.  Food and drink are not included but you are welcome to bring your own or purchase these from local outlets on the tour route.  Our tours pass many visitor attractions.  Our Guides will give information on these where appropriate but unless otherwise stated, entry to these, and tours within them, is not included.  Some optional extras are available on certain tours and the prices for these are indicated within the appropriate tour description.

WHAT TO WEAR

Walking Tours – comfortable walking shoes and a waterproof jacket and/or umbrella are recommended.

Cycling Tours – the following are recommended:

  • Shoes – please wear enclosed shoes (no sandals, flipflops/thongs or high heels).
  • Clothing – you don’t have to wear professional cycling gear, just wear whatever is comfortable, but a pair of padded cycling shorts and a set of waterproofs are recommended.  Wearing layers will enable you to add/remove clothing if you get too hot/cold.  It can get quite cold and/or windy so a fleecy top is also suggested.
  • Gloves – not essential but will help keep your hands warm and protect against blisters.
  • Protection – cycle helmets and high visibility vests will be provided but you are welcome to use your own helmet if preferred.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Sun-block, a hat and a camera are advised for all tours.
  • Water.
  • A packed lunch/snack is advised for cycling tours (although these can also be purchased en-route).

CYCLE HIRE

Bicycle hire is provided through the Nextbike City Bike scheme and, if required, can be booked through our online booking system.  Hire of bicycles is subject to Nextbike’s Terms & Conditions.

TOUR ROUTES

Whilst every effort will be made to follow the advertised route of a tour, Hidden Heritage Tours reserves the right to change tour routes if weather conditions, roadworks, unscheduled events, the pace of the group or other unforeseen circumstances dictate.

DISABILITIES AND MEDICAL PROBLEMS

We will try to accommodate disabilities and medical problems where we can but please be aware that many of our tours, especially our cycling tours, may not be suitable. If you or any member of your party has any disability or medical problem which may affect their ability to undertake the tour then please telephone our office on ++44(0)7857 974178 and provide us with full details so we can advise you as to the suitability of the tour.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Every precaution is taken to ensure that our tours are run in a safe and careful manner.  However, accidents can happen.  To reduce the impact of such incidents our Guides:

  • Always carry mobile phones
  • Always carry first aid kits
  • Are trained First Aiders
  • Have completed Cycle Ride Leader training with Cycling Scotland (on cycling tours)
  • Are trained in bicycle maintenance (on cycling tours)
  • Carry puncture repair kits (on cycling tours)
  • Follow official cycle routes wherever possible (on cycling tours)

In addition, CTC Cycle Activity Provider Insurance is carried by Hidden Heritage Tours.  We recommend that participants arrange suitable travel, medical and cancellation insurance.
